The Messiah at a Well

A woman in Samaria
Came to a well
A Jewish man rested nearby
Right by Jacob’s well

Six long hours after dawn
In broad daylight
Jesus asked for a drink
In the midst of heat might

“How can you ask for a drink?”
Ethnic bitterness
Animosity had grown
Ignoring, no less

Jesus’ response to her
If you only knew
The gift of God for everyone
And who I am is true

If you knew who I really am
You would ask me
Living water to you my friend
I’d give freely

A plain response the woman gave
You have no jar
We inherited this well
Our blessing in Sychar

Though you drink from this fine well
You’ll thirst again
Whoever drinks what I give
Will never thirst again

Quenched with my living water
A spring will flow
Eternal life you will have
Eternal life you’ll know

Sir I want this special water
She did say
I want to quench my thirst
And quench it right today

Return with your husband
Was His statement
I have no husband
She said with lament?

I know the truth you do tell
And you still mingle
Five husbands you have had
And you’re not quite single

On to a different subject
The woman said
I can see you’re a prophet
What about worship instead

Our forefathers worshiped
On Mount Gerizim
You all in Jerusalem
So agreement is slim

Oblation was the call of Him
The place is not key
Loving worship He revealed
The mode is the key

Hebrews worship the living God
Salvation comes from them
Yet a time had come from heaven
Which no person could hem

Worship God in spirit and truth
That is the need
Worship God in spirit and truth
A revelation indeed

Revelations were flowing out
The nature of God?
Spirit is the essence of God
Spirit is the nature of God

So much to digest
A spiritual realm
She said Messiah will come
Even though overwhelmed

Sharing an epic truth
Given also for you and for me
Jesus gave a salutation:
The Messiah is me.
